Going Green – New Zealand

OCS in New Zealand has recognised their responsibility and have formalised this concept as Project Green Frog.

Green products are everywhere and it is a competitive business. Most people are appreciating the benefits of environmentally friendly products, their ethics, their environment and are willing to pay higher prices for them. As green hits the mainstream and consumers become more green-savvy, businesses risk falling behind or losing credibility though greenwash marketing to keep up.

OCS in New Zealand has recognised their responsibility and have formalised this concept as Project Green Frog. The programme is aimed to help in developing sustainable working procedures, which will deliver internal improvements benefiting both the customer and the environment. “We are taking the initiative in leading the industry into an environment that produces a product that delights our customers and meets their future needs,” says George McElroy, Supply Chain Co-ordinator, New Zealand.

Understanding customer requirements and the current environmental issues lead to a thorough research process when looking into launching Cannon’s new premier range. Bryce Tietjens, Cannon National Operations Manager NZ explains the research process: “We looked at a number of important factors that are having an impact on the New Zealand market; namely the growing concern and interest over sustainability issues such as recycling and reducing our carbon footprint, and getting the best out of technology.”

The New Zealand team are addressing this climate of environmental change by listening to customers and changing current company procedures to bring them in line with the new standards. Making small efficient changes, like turning the light off when leaving a room or cutting down on fleet fuel use, will also result in cost savings.
