OCS Honoured For Its "Golden Service"
OCS claimed 4 of the 16 Golden Service Awards, including Overall Winner, at this year’s GSA presentation - the ‘Oscars of the cleaning industry’.
OCS representatives proudly received awards on behalf of the company and their teams for Best Cleaned Premises Retail Outlet – at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, the Johnson Diversey Environmental Awareness Award – at Hinxton Hall Ltd in Cambridge and BCC Site Supervisor of the Year, as well as Overall Winner awarded for Gunwharf Quays.
Picking up the BCC Site Supervisor of the Year was Marek Makowski, site supervisor for the OCS housekeeping team contracted by SPIE Matthew Hall at the Eli Lilly site in Erl Wood Manor. Marek expressed his delight at receiving his award saying, “I would like to thank everyone for giving me this opportunity and for their support and confidence. Through the training and development opportunities my manager has given me, I have worked my way up from a member of the housekeeping team to housekeeping supervisor. This has truly been the highlight of my career.”
“We feel that Marek is much-deserving of this honour,” said David Woodhouse, Support Services Manager for SPIE Matthew Hall. “He is a positive person who enjoys the challenge of maintaining and enhancing high standards of service. His experience and knowledge of a supervisory role shines through. Always willing to go the extra mile, undertaking snow clearance to ensure the offices stayed open during blizzards earlier this year and assisting with floods on site, he has a sense of humour, great communication skills and is an invaluable member of our team.”
Open to all segments of the cleaning and support services industry, 137 entries were received for the 15 award categories from across the UK and Ireland. Judging was carried out by an independent panel including representatives from Cleaning & Maintenance Magazine, The Cleaning and Support Services Association, The British Cleaning Council and the British Institute of Cleaning Science. “It quickly became clear who the winners were,” said Paul Pearce, Judge Chair for the GSA 2009. “As judges, innovation, staff management, training and client relationship were among the main criteria which we assessed. Each of the winners of the 15 categories and the overall winner’s site received top marks across the board for clearly providing the gold standard in all of these criteria,” Paul added.
